What breeds do they sell, Do they register them? Do they overinflate the price.
Whats the deal with them?
I am not looking for one i am just curious how it works? What kind of breeds do they sell in pet stores? i have never seen puppies for sale in pet stores before?
yeah it's kind of an unheard thing over here. Im in ROI, and i've never seen it. But when i went to Brazil in 2003, over to my fiance's homeplace , it is seemingly very common over there. Even on the street they were sellin dogs in cages.
Mad !!!!What kind of breeds do they sell in pet stores? i have never seen puppies for sale in pet stores before?
In a town close to mine, they sell any breed of dog. Mutts included.
They overcharge WAY too much. I went there and there was a PugXCocker Spaniel. It was 1660$, for a ';designer mutt!';
They normally aren't registered. They just take them from backyard breeders or puppy mills and inflate the price to way above what knowledgable people would pay. But theres always the people who think ';awwe that puppys cute, lets get it.'; Not even thinking about where the puppy comes from, if it has been looked at by a vet etc.
You could be a crazy puppy killer and still get a puppy instantly in a pet store. If you got the money, you have the dog right then and there. There's no adoption process and they dont screen you to see if that puppy would be suitable in your home.
Decent, reputable pet stores do not sell dogs. It is considered very disreputable, and responsible people would never buy a dog from a pet store. Pet store dogs are bought from puppy mills where the dogs are mistreated and live miserable, horrible lives. There is no guarantee to the quality of the dog, and they usually charge more than they should for the dogs. You will very rarely find a pet store selling dogs or cats for those reasons.
The pet stores around here usually hold adoptions on weekends. The local animal shelter will come in on weekends and people can adopt puppies. Puppies are the first to go. They are considerable in price. I just got two puppies from the shelter and it was $250 each. The cost is for the shelter itself to pay for shots and vet costs of all incoming animals. I thought it was expensive, but then it made sense when my friend explained it to me. My puppies have no health issues and were nutered and had all their shots. They even came with a microchip to be tracked in case lost. Hope this helped. Oh they are australian shephard mix, from the same litter.
agree with crysiana, only buy from the breeder direct, there are lots in northern ireland, you need to see the puppies parents.and the conditions they were bred in.if you cannot make up your mind which breed you want, why not go to a dog show?your local vet can also reccomend good breeders.
They sell pretty much any breed (or mixed breed) imagineable. The prices are seriously overinflated. And the puppies usually come from puppy mills and are therefore likely to have a lot of health problems when they're older (or even younger!).
It's a shameful thing and pet stores should be barred from selling animals.
well, it depends on the store a lot.
most will only sell pure breeds.. I'm from u.s.a. though.
%26amp; also, yes they can be overpriced; but they come with shots, tags etc.
just all depends on where you go.
hope to help:)
I am from USA and have resided in Massachusetts, Arizona and Washington state. All these states have pet shops that sell puppies. I don't think that there is a state in this country that does not allow pet shops to sell puppies unfortunately.
I don't know if you know about our crisis in the 'midwest states' with the ';Puppy Mills'; but these are places that keep adult dogs of many different breeds in generally very poor condition in small filthy cages. These private people will sell puppies wholesale to chain pet stores for about 35 to 100 US dollars and then the petshops mark up about 1000 percent. It is a shame but I have seen video on utube of other countries that do big business in the dog fur trade so it isn't that awful bad but a close second.
You can find almost any breed in a pet shop but the larger chains would be most likely to carry the toy sizes and the miniature size breeds because they willl stay cute and tiny for a much longer time so that the store has quite a while to keep the price above $1000 and still have a chance to get that price even if it takes a month to sell a dog for so much money. They would be likely to carry the furry little breeds too like the Poodle, Bichon, Yorkie, Maltese, Pom, Schnauzer, Chihuahua, Dachshund. Pug, Shih Tzu, Lhasa and most of the small 'designer' breeds. They will sometimes say they guarantee but there are usually big loopholes in the guarantee and truly the buyer won't be able to collect in the event something happens to the puppy.
Dog people always tell other people ';Never Buy from a Pet store'; but people go in 'just to look' and get sucked in and end up buying. Then they always say ';I would never buy from a pet shop but I couldn't leave him there!'; and so the cycle continues because the pet shop can always sell them eventually! I am one of those people who always goes in to look because I love all puppies but I have not bought a puppy from a pet store since I was a little kid. Many years ago, pet shops would sell to kids that had money but these days, they usually will not sell a puppy to anyone under 18. I think the reason is that legally, they will be forced to take the puppy back if the parents insist but if an adult buys a pup ';ALL SALES ARE FINAL'; is usually posted somewhere around the puppy area.
