Definitely go through the AKC on this one...they will have listings of reputable breeders. There was one place online...I think it was Puppy Finder or something that sounded like that who had listings that were completely fraudulent. The people were using other breeders' photos and selling inbred puppies. Better yet, find a breeder in your area so that the puppy doesn't have to be flown.
PLEASE VISIT YOUR LOCAL SHELTER OR HUMANE SOCIETY FIRST!

They do get pure bred dogs on occasion, and there are SO many unwanted animals in this world.

We have adopted two dogs from the shelter now. Just this weekend I adopted a dog, he is a year and a half old. They said it was a German Shepard/Australian Shepard Mix. It turns out that he is a rare breed of dog called a Dutch Shepard, or Hollandase Herder. I looked online and these dogs sell for well over $1000 from a breeder. I got mine for $90 and he is the sweetest most wonderful dog EVER.

He had been at the shelter since January that is 5 months! Most dogs don't last that long in a shelter environment. They just lose it...they snap, and end up biting someone or acting aggressive. Then the are killed because the shelters can't adopt them out that way.

So PLEASE, before you buy a designer dog, at least go LOOK at your local shelters- you never know... you might fall in love and save a life all in one day!
go to akc.org, and look at their list of recomended breeders.
i know this really good site called puppies.com or something like that. the puppies are usually from breedeers and kind of expensive. or you could just look in your local news paper

if you really want a good dog, you must to know the parents, because the dogs not only have the color and size for heritage, the behavior is part of the heritage to
DON'T BUY PUPPIES ONLINE!!! While there may be some reputable breeders selling puppies this way, a great majority of them are puppy mills - breeders who just pump out as many litters as possible to make a buck. These puppies are much more likely to be inbred and have health and behavioral problems. If you know what kind of dog you want, do a google search for the national club for that breed (i.e. Bulldog Club of America or whatever). These clubs can provide references of good, reputable breeders who breed their dogs for good health and good temperaments. If you aren't looking for a specific breed, or want a mutt, check out your local humane society and rescue a dog who would otherwise be put to sleep.
