I live in chicago and can't find any saint benard puppies for sale, can you help me?

my hubby wants a saint benard but I can't find any around us for sale. any reason why? are they hard to find?and is it true they only live about 8 years?I live in chicago and can't find any saint benard puppies for sale, can you help me?
Summer puppy season is about over. It's not uncommon for dogs to be born year 'round, but there is definately more born in the early spring and around the end of October. (Christmas Puppies)

Contact a breed rescue in your area. A vet will have a number. You may be able to find a pup, but a young adult is just as good.

Yes, the giant breeds only live about 8 years. Great Danes, Irish Wolfhounds and for some reason Boxers, among others, leave us far too soon.

Good LuckI live in chicago and can't find any saint benard puppies for sale, can you help me?
Go to www.akc.org %26amp; get in touch with members of the closest breed club. Buy from a member that tests %26amp; certifies their breeding dogs free from genetic defects known to the breed - especially hip dysplasia. The parent dogs should have cerificates from either OFA or Penn Hip to prove this - very important! This breed has more hip dysplasia problems than German Shepherds, and some St. Bernard breeders try to downplay the importance of certifying, but I worked for vets and saw how many otherwise healthy Saints are put down at 3-5 years old because they could no longer walk %26amp; the owners could not carry them in a sling or deal with the special cart in their house %26amp; yard. This is very important. Yes, they are not a long lived dog, as are most large breeds, unfortunately. But if this is the dog you want, buy from a reputable breeder %26amp; enjoy the time you have with your pet, don't let the negative side outweigh the good.
No I seriously doubt that they only live 8 years cuz I had one that got hit by a car as a kid @ the age of 12!

But as for the purchasing of a purebred St. Bernard question.... please consider a Saint Bernard rescue agency.

There are many located all over the country %26amp; they are willing to ship to you! That way not only will you get a purebred dog that is already socialized, has had top of the line vet care %26amp; in a lot of cases are already housetrained but the best part is that you will be saving a life!!

Since you are already on Yahoo right now, why not do a search for a rescue agency that specializes specifically in Saint Bernards or even better go to the AKC or CKC websites %26amp; check out the rescue agencies that they recommend!!

They are excellent, intelligent, loyal, albeit clumsy dogs but sooooo lovable!

Good Luck!!
myself i would look on line for a breeder near by,, and as far as age I'm not sure about that because i know of a few that are15,plus years old
PLEASE do not buy a dog from a breeder. Search the internet for St. Bernar rescue groups if you really want a purebred.

or try a search for St. Bernards on Petfinder (www.petfinder.com)

And, yes, generally they do only live about 8 years (sometimes a little longer).
the best place to look is on www.petfinder.org you can find dogs that are left at shelters who need homes. you might get lucky and find one at a shelter. good luck.
Go at www.puppyfind.com and then put find a dog. I get my husky in there.
