My grandparents collie dog died a year or so ago, and they want another one.Does anyone know of collie puppies for sale in the madison Wi area?
put a ad in your local paper...best place to get a healthy one...stay away from show breeders they care nothing about the health of their dogs...just breed standards for kennel club shows...Does anyone know of collie puppies for sale in the madison Wi area?
I show my collies and they are our life, not all show breeders are like what the other person said, i know some good breeders who dote and follow on the lives of their pups.
However i also do a lot of animal rescue work and my first thought would be to search your local animal shelters for a collie, sadly in the uk we have an abundance of collies in animal shelters of all ages..
Now seriously with them been older people i wouldnt recommend a collie pup, they are seriously hard work esp if they have farm breed in them.. they can be more than a handful esp when they get to that 9 month old gobby stage.. i am currently dealing with a lovely adorable collie pup but is at that i can rule the world stage..sadly its bounced from its home as they cant cope.
What i would be looking for is an older collie, maybe 5 or 6, that has a certain amount of training, try and get one that has not direct decendants of farm collies.
I have 6 rescue collies here and you can tell which ones are from a farm and which are way distant in their past.
Their is lots of rescues, try searing dog rescue pages in usa, shelters etc.. just because a dog is a shelter dog does not mean they are any worse than bred dogs..
The ones we have all came from shelters all over the uk, we have trained them, some has issues and we turned them around and now they are show dogs and have won loads.. we put no pressure on them to be show, if they want to roll around in a muddy puddle or not go into the ring thats fine, its all about fun and doing different things with your collie..
