In the source box is a Google search of ';puppies for sale';+';Cincinnati'; since I live in the Cincinnati area. If you live in a moderately-sized area, changing ';Cincinnati'; to your city name should yield a fair amount of links. You might even be able to narrow your search further by adding a ';small'; (or something like that) to your search criteria.
Now, I've heard that getting pets from pet stores is a bad deal because some are rife with disease potential and the animals come from puppy mills. Here in Cincinnati, the local SPCA rep brings in a few puppies/kittens/adult pets to a local news station (WKRC-12) a couple of days a week to show off. You might want to visit the local SPCA chapter in your town and see what they have to offer. They may even provide obedience training for a fairly nominal fee.
And don't discount adult dogs, either - they're usually fairly well-trained by that age and really need homes. You know someone's always going to adopt the puppies, so they're not going to be stuck in the shelter. If I'm not mistaken, our SPCA offers adult dogs at a lesser price than they do puppies.
But however you go, good luck and I hope you find a little buddy.
