a website that preferably asks close to what city.Does anyone know a website that i can look for puppies for sale?
No, I don't. To buy from a website is to buy from a puppy mill or backyard breeder. Please try your local shelters and save a life or find a reputable breeder.
Once you have decided on the breed you are looking for, visit the internet and find the NATIONAL BREED CLUB for your breed. Review all the information about the breed and find the web pages or phone contacts of breeders that are listed there. National breed clubs almost always have certain standards and ethics quides for any breeders which are listed on their pages.
Step2Prepare a questionnaire of questions you want to ask the breeder. This is a good one:
What health guarantees do you have?
Can you give me a vet reference?
Can I visit your kennel and if so, when?
How long have you been breeding?
Do you enter your own dogs in AKC events?
Can you send me a sample copy of your contract?
Do you sell your litters to pet stores or brokers?
(there is NO responsible breeder that will sell to a broker or a pet store, since it is too difficult to follow through on who is getting your puppy!!)
The LAST question should be ';how much do your puppies cost?'; but it is of course an important question
Step3Do make plans to visit the kennel and while there check the following things:
Are the dogs healthy and happy?
Does the kennel owner know each one by name?
Do the dogs have places to run outside their pens?
Are the pens clean and roomy?
(even if the home is a mess or in an uproar and not very neat, the kennels should be clean and all dogs should have food and fresh water available)
Is the whelping area in the house?
(puppies should be raised INSIDE a home for at least the first four weeks in order to get all the necessary social and physical attention needed in the first few weeks)
Do the sire and the dam act friendly and sociable?
(sometimes the STUD dog may not be available, the female may have been shipped elsewhere for breeding)

Never buy a dog online, most of the sites you will find are broker sites, which yeah get there dogs from puppy mills. So unless you want to spend thousands of dollars on who knows what at the vets to correct what the bad breeding has done, only to lose the dog really early, than don't buy online.
If you want a pure bred find a reputable breeder through the breed club. All national breed clubs have a breeder's directory.
If you are not particular in what you want, go to petfinder and find local shelters that have dogs/puppies up for adoption.
Or just go down to you're local shelter and find one.
I think petfinder.com is a great one to look for puppies in shelters or other places in your specific area. You can search by breed, by location, by size of dog, by age of dog and a couple other things, if I remember right!
Also, puppyfind.com is a great site to search when you're looking for a specific breed. You can search by breed, or size of dog (and I think a few other things too). Also, you can browse through the categories of breeds, and look at all the cute pictures until you find a breed or a puppy that's right for you.
It's a bit shady, because you don't know where the puppies are coming from at first. I don't suggest buying from a breeder, I'd rather you adopt from a shelter.
But both are good websites to get you started on what type of dog you want.
Hope that helps!
If you're looking to have a puppy and you don't mind what breed. Please adopt them. There are hundred of pets being put down because someone couldn't handle them or they just had nowhere else to go.
before you check any website.. read this one

it is called
WHERE THE PUPPIES ARE
dogsindanger is another great site.
petfinder.
akc.org has lists of breed clubs that will refer you to a breeder or a rescue.
just about any place else will get you a poorly bred dog that will give you huge vet bills and a bad experience.
Take mine haha!
On a serious note..make sure you do LOTS of research in to the breed of the dog and its parents before you buy!
and it depends where you live to what website to go on.
Anybody peddling dogs on-line is a puppymiller/BYB!
Anybody too cheap %26amp; lazy to pick up a PHONE %26amp; talk to real people or get off their fat donkey %26amp; go LOOK at real dogs can't properly handle an animal.
I know of plenty - but there's no way I'd recommend any of them as a source of your next pet.
call the AKC
petfinder.com
try multiply.com. alot of people sell stuff in there. :)
